Car keys have dramatically evolved throughout the last few decades. In the past (pre 1998) cars have used a key similar to those we might use for our home security, a durable metal key that would normally have a thin plastic hood. These days’ car keys also include a transponder which acts as additional security for your four wheeled friend.
Transponder keys are pretty much the standard type of car key these days. A transponder key is different to a regular car key as it has a small transmitter placed in the bow of a key, housed underneath some durable plastic. A receiver is placed in placed via an antenna near the cars ignition which can read the low level signal and will allow the car to start once prompted by the user.
Transponder car keys are a popular choice of car key as they prevent your car from being hotwired and stolen. The transponder device needs to be present for the car to turn on so even if the burglar had a replacement car key made, it would still not work as they require the signal from the transponder to switch on.
A lost or faulty transponder means a car that won’t start, but don’t panic – call us and we can fix or duplicate it for you! At Central Lock & Key we stock, cut and program a wide variety of transponder car and automotive keys to suit the requirement of your car.
Central Lock & Key also provide replacement car remotes and remote control shells for not only your car but also for your home and business. A remote control key allows keyless entry into your car which is not only convenient but secure.
